Got a panic attack to day. The server that xjbikes is on was down for most of the day today. Due to exceeding the bandwidth limit. How can this be there is not that many post made on this site to exceed the bandwidth limit. Then I just happened to see the visitor count over 275! come on lets get the web bots off this sight before we lose it permanently. I have only personally meet only a few of the folks on this sight, but all of the folks on here feel like family. And if I lose you all :( . Please if the administrators read this, there are solutions to this problem. There are small scripts, and free to boot, that would block the web bots. I am sure your tired of putting up the money for the bandwidth just for them to suck it right out. Please, and I thank you Ralph Morgan, Cleveland Texas.

70886151 page views just from bots! Thats almost 70% of the views.

LOL, you guys are too funny. Bots and spiders are needed to help with search engines. Normally the site can handle the volumes but the site keeps growing and and using more resources. I'm open to suggestions.

That'll cut the traffic to zero in a hurry...

I vote for blocking the bots. It's either search bots, and I'm having trouble believing there are THAT many search engines, or IMHO it's a DDOS. Either the kitchen spammer guy, or some other disgruntled individual.

If a robots.txt file can be used, I think it can be used to whitelist a given list of search engines, such as Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, etc.

Sadly, with all the perverts and side-show freakazoids running free in the interwebs, it will probably make the site go parabolic in just a few days........

I also found the xjbikes facebook page during the blackout but has not been touched since 2011. I am gonna guess somebody made it at some point and never even set it up right. It was a pain to add a comment. That may be handy as emergency plan to communicate on days like yesterday when the internet gods descend and hit the kill button.

And what about those of us who don't have a Facebook account, and don't want one?

There's that flash-based chat room out there, but I think the user who had taken over admin duties from the person who created the channel, gave it up as well.

edit: Chat room is still there and working. It's even got some cutesie mini-games to play and stuff.

I just made a donation. Not a huge amount but if everyone ( or at least the 'frequent flyers" ) make a small donation it would really help SnoSheriff out. :D

I was afraid, very afraid. I hid under the bed with my favorite wrench and went to sleep.

You could also use the robot.txt to block out sections that do not need to be search indexed. Like the sale/wanted/trade, and galleries sections.

That alone would reduce a lot of the bandwidth from bots.
