I recently bought a spare rack of carbs. They have some interesting drain screws in them. Are these aftermarket or a stock feature taken from a different bike?

I assume that hose barb is open to a hole in the side of the needle?

    Not original on your Maxim.

Looks like they have been salvaged off a Bike which is more Antique than yours!

They look more like brake bleeders than drain screws. Thread seems a tad coarse too, did the guy that installed them also drill/re-tap the threads in the bowls?

DO NOT throw them away until you're sure the replacements (I'm assuming you'll be replacing them) will fit.

If they aren't leaking, and drain the float bowls when opened, why bother replacing them?

Cause it'll make wet setting the floats look like a bit of slap stick?

The $64,000 question is: are the DRAIN PORTS correspondingly plugged?

The "bleed screw as drain plug" idea is pretty cool, but not if the drain ports are still open.

I took a better look at everything and I have no clue what they were trying to do. They don't seal against anything, the hole is straight through. You have to run some kind of cap on the end all the time. The threads are identical to the drain screws that came out of my other rack. They are definitely NOT meant for these bowls.

I am tempted to make them work.

Order the standard ones for your bike & see if they fit......otherwise you may have to continue using the ones that have now.....I would order the allen head hex screws from Chacal.... what do you have to lose.....except a few more dollars

You may have to, depending on whether or not the bowls were "modified" in some manner.

In the original configuration, the tapered tip of the drain screw closes off the passage from inside the float bowl to the drain "spout" that is adjacent to the screw. To work correctly, the drain ports need to be clear; be sure they weren't plugged to accommodate the "design change."

Nothing was changed on the bowls. I tried using some old drain screws I had laying around and everything still functions as intended with the correct screws installed.
