Hello fellow XJ1100 owners. I'm sure that at least one of you has had this issue so I need advice. There is no spark for 2/3 but yes for 1/4. I reversed the coil connectors and got a spark to 2/3 but not 1/4. I replaced the 2/3 coil with one I got from ebay, but it didnt help. So I am now turning to the experts, as Wizard suggested that I get post going on this. All suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated. I JUST WANT TO RIDE!!!!

    Test the pick-up coils;
On the TCI there are 2 connectors, one has 3 wires. Un plug it and get your ohm meter.
I think the colors are black, gray and orange.
    Black- common
    gray- pickup 1
    orange- pickup2
read from black to gray should read around 100 ohms(check your manual but I think 100 is close)
read from black to orange should also read 100 ohms
if either is way off the coil is bad or there is a loose connection on the plug connector behind the engine(there is a connector between the TCI and pickups )
If the readings are good then clean the wires at the TCI, if that does not help then the TCI is bad.

If I had an 1100, ... I would scrap the Original Coils for performance DYNA's or ACCEL Coils.

    Solder-in a New Fuse Panel.

Test the Ign Syst with a known good TCI.

If you need a new TCI check out http://www.erd.co.nz/index.html I've just replaced my one (XJ750E II) and they have them for your 1100. You can probably find them on eBay.

It could also be one of the PICKUPS or its wiring...

All we know right now is it's probably not a coil. Going from "not a coil" to "it's the TCI" is a bit of a stretch; there is a lot in between.

Ok, so I did as mlew suggested. pulled the three wire plug from the TCI.

    blk/org = 112.5 ohms
    blk/grey=112.5 ohms

Did the same at the connector between the TCI and the pick ups and readings were the same. This says that the pick up coils are good, right?

Right, pickup coils are good. You might try checking the wiring to the ignition coils to see if they have good connection to the coils. Other than that your TCI is probably bad.
The ignition coil wires are on the large TCI plug. Red/white is common, gray to coil 1, orange to coil 2. It should read about 3 ohms from red/white to gray and the same from red/white to orange.

    red/white to orange = 3.8 ohms
    red/white to gray = 3.8 ohms

is this a good reading or does it mean that the TCI is shot? Trying to do as everyone suggested and eliminate all others first.

That says the coils are good, odds are the TCI is bad. Next step is to find another one.

Ive heard that you can take them to a tv/radio repair shop and they could fix it up. Ever heard of that? Chacal has one for 150.00. I just might have to order it from him.

What was the lead up to this problem? Was the bike ok then suddenly failed?

If a new/used TCI fixes the problem I would like the chance to look at the old one. I have had some success replacing the diodes in them to get them working again. Many times they fail from loose solder joints and corroded parts.
