I am looking to do a minimum wiring job on an 81 XJ 650 Midnight Maxim and I found a diagram that shows the basics needed but it doesn't show the diode block anywhere on it. Can anybody tell me if the diode block is necessary for the harness and if so how would it wire into system.

you don't need it anymore but i always put a way in to shut the headlight off.
that way if you have the key on the battery won't die while you work on something that needs power. it might get you just enough to start it too, should your battery get sick

I kept mine, but I still have turn signals. If you are following that diagram to the letter you won't need it.

I put my headlight on its own fuse. I can just pull the fuse.

I'm going to run signals from the power wire that supplies the fuses in the diagram. I just wanted to know if it had anything to do with the charging system since it ties in with the stator in the stock system.
