Basically, i am getting a nasty death wobble at speed on my maxim. Anyone know of some good things to try to alleviate this? I know my father dropped the bike once, but was riding fine afterwards. bike has 24k on it, never had anything up fron serviced except for fresh tires a couple times.

    thanks

    Check the tires air pressure.
I've got a slow leak in my front that lets me know when it needs attention with a wobble on turns.
How are those steering head bearings??

You could try getting the tires balanced also I would check the condition of the forks to see if they are bent.

i dont think its a tire problem. i am thinking of the steering head bearings i have new tires that were balanced when installed. that was maybe 1500 miles ago.

Maybe you've already considered this but do you have the "tree knuckles" tightened/sandwiching the neck of the frame? It should be torqued to spec to allow free movement of the steering head bearings while still keeping your steering solid.

hello, cheese! I was getting the same thing on my 700... I rebuilt the whole front top to bottom....

Here are a few things I learned on the way...my brake was sticking.
noticing how bad they looked I took them off and they where filthy.
I had crud in the caliper holes cloging them up..
so one was sticking specialy when I would accelerate. "Whoa bad wobbles"
I guess from the rotor hitting the shoe caused a wobble...

I fixed them and problem seemed better...

However I did rebuild my bearings, fork springs seals, brakes, calipers, rotor.
and im dying to ride so I can reap my rewards..

I guess what im saying is do your P.M.C.S. and give the whole front end a good once over.

I was told you could have some one sit on the back of the bike(while its on the maitenance stand) as to pick the front end off the ground..

Stand in front of the bike turn the steering head left and right check for problems , loseness sticking etc..

Well good luck with your mission...I hope this helps..

If not there is a lot of great people here with good info....

took another look at it this past thursday, i put the bike up on the center stand, the steering is REALLY VERY LOOSE. so i think i am going to pull it apart starting tonight. maybe i'll throw some brakes on the front as well, getting close to time anyway. i feel that the wobble isnt cause by brakes though, only heppens when decelerating, not accelerating. we'll see.
