Trying to fit the carbs back on the bike, having a difficult time getting them past the lip inside the boots. Any tips from the guru's?

Have them tipped down at the back, seat the carbs in the manifolds (carb bottom lip), then wiggle up/down on the rack till they pop in, using as much forward pushing as you can without taking the bike off the center stand.

You can use a hammers wood handle to try and pry them back in as well, but only use the wood.

    Some spray silicone lube helps.

Once you get them in the manifold boots, just wait till you have to get the air boots back on. Man that was a headache!!

Silicone lube sounds like a great idea actually. You should def give that a go if you have some! Wish I would have thought of that.

Lubed em up a bit and pop.... Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to force it and break something that I wasn't paying attention to, I hate forcing anything.

take the 2 outer boots off the engine and put them onto the carbs and tighten them up onto the carbs. Then push the carbs onto the engine (as you will only need to push them onto the 2 inners and then put the bolts onto the outer boots.

    makes life a lot easier..

It is generally not advisable to remove the boots from the head unless you have too as you risk snapping the bolts which happens pretty often. Then you are headed to the machine shop to get it fixed.

I find a wave of the heat gun on low helped a lot. Just don't overdo it.

I have a screwdriver style pick with a 90 degree bend that I use when installing the boots. Makes it a lot easier. It's a craftsman, so I'm sure there is a real name for it.

Warm the boots up with a hairdryer.

Apply a light smear of Synthetic Waterproof Grease to the Inside Diameters of the Manifolds.
    Carb Necks, too.

Pop them in using a Hardwood Hammer Handle as a Pry Bar.
The wood will not mar anything.

i took off all 4 boots from air box to carbs off. since they were pretty pliable. made getting the carbs off the front ones easy as pie. a little extra cleaning and lubing up those boots again and they popped right back in on the reverse effort. as far as the front ones... hmm mine just went right back in no prob. so i think like another guy said some wood and some leverage/ elbow grease will get them back.

i just did mine,,unfortunately i hafta take em off again..on the top of the airbox theres a screw there that loosens the air box,, it gives you a extra half inch..your gunna need a freind to help pull back on it with a long screw driver as you install, dont tighten them until you have all 4 boots on because as you pull back on them you pull the others off, (dont ask how i know this). once their all seated..make sure after pusshin and gettin them (comfy) then tighten up clamps,

I enlarged the Holes in the Airbox. Not too much. Just enough to let me rotate the Boots with a Tool made from a CB Antenna.

Wrap some 400 on a Tomato Paste Can.
Sand the Inside Diameters of the Air Boot Holes.
    Then,... smooth them with 800.
    Lube them with Silicone.
