Hey guys I have been working on this xj550 for quite awhile and it is finallya ridable bike. It was a junk yard find maxim that would never have been on the road again without this forum. Only have a little more work to go. Thanks guys

Nice bike! I just picked up my first bike a couple weeks ago, it's a '82 Seca 550 with 5,400 miles on it. Only been out for a few short rides with it. I have a few things that need to be done, but I can't wait to get out and put some miles on her.

    Have fun! Ride Safe!

Its a kz650 tank, I think. It was hard to find a tank to fit the mounts but It fit perfectly. The only other tank I could scrounge up was a radian tank.. I love the secas. I actually put seca cams on this maxim :)

I hope you also swapped the carbs with "Seca" carbs; they're different internally (pilot air jet and main jet needles) from the Maxims (because of the cams.)

I changed the main needle jet but not the pilot air jet. It takes longer to warm up with choke on and idles a little lean. When Im actually riding it is pretty amazing though..

Keep an eye on the plugs to make sure it's not running too lean.

Don't you have to change out the TCI as well if you use Seca cams?

And how do you turn with those bars? lol

I'm using originally TCI and there doesnt seem to be any timing issues. It pulls steady all the way to 9k. The handle bars don't get turned very far either lol.

Man, those lines are really cool! Love that tank too.
Some might call it a junk yard dog, but it's got a lot of swag!
    Kudos to ya.
