Greetings once again y'all , the pin that holds in the brake shoes on a 1981 midnight 650 is causeing me some grief it absolutely refuses to budge even after penetrating oil and some gentle persuasion with a hammer and drift then some less than gentle persuasion of the same sort the " spring clip has been moved so its not the problem ... am i doing something wrong ? or does this old PITA just need a bigger hammer ? thanks in advance for the help !

By spring clip..you mean the tiny clip that goes right through the pin yes?
Something very odd here...it shouldn't be that hard to remove...

So you've tried twisting it out with vice grips?

yes the little spring clip that goes around the pin and keeps it from moving has been slid down the pin so there is no way it is preventing movement ive tried the hammer and drift and gently with pump pliers / vice grips but not too hard because I didn't want to chew up the surface of the pin and make it harder to remove i've also blasted it twice with a 30% hotter than propane torch and then fast cooled it with water to try and get it free twice the back to the hammer and drift and nothing ! with a large dousing of aerosol penetrating oil between each frustrated attempt
if i didn't know better i would have given it up as all one piece of metal but thats not possible

Mmmm. They are quite different from mine (xj 900). Any chance of fashioning a crude press with your vice using a socket at one end and a pin at the other end? Go easy though if you try that....

Glad you fixed your problem. I've noticed a lot threads just end and you don't know if the person fixed the problem or gave up.
