82 XJ650..23k miles..Previous (original) owner isn't sure if he ever had the valves adjusted. Would this cause bike to have sluggish acceleration at low rpm? I will adjust them this weekend anyway, but the problem is; It has sluggish acceleration at low rpm then pulls real hard. It idles fine. All floats are wet set and carbs are "zestfully" clean. No vacuum leaks and petcock is ok. It has new coils/wires and end caps. Plugs are gapped correctly. Anything else I'm missing?

I adjusted the valves on my 700 this past winter and it pulls much better over the whole rpm range. Last year at 3k rpm I would crank on it and it would go but nothing exciting. Now it's like "Whoa!". It's a blast getting on the interstate. I can go 30 to 70 in a heartbeat.

When you check your clearances, post your findings. I think you'll find you've caught it in the nick of time.

I will post them. You can count it BigFitz. I'm afraid to even start it.
