I am in search of a luggage rack for my 83 750 MidMax. I know these are difficult to find OEM and I have read most of the posts concerning luggage and XJs. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction for an aftermarket or adaptable part I can use. I do not have access to a fabricator at the moment as I am fairly new to my neck of the woods but I could probably locate one if that is the only option I have. I have spent a lot of time on Ebay and Google looking already and have not had any real luck. I am hoping someone with some experience and expertise can help me out.

    Thanks guys!

I can look into it. Are you sure these will work for you? Shipping isn't going to be cheap and there's no reason to waste money.

I know I am not 100% sure either. I checked with Chacal and he was not 100% either since he does not directly deal with these products. I know it is going to be expensive and I am not in a position to spend willy nilly. However, if they would work they would meet my needs perfectly. I will ask around on the board and see what happens. I think there are a couple of guys on here who might be able to help. I am interested though but can't ask you to hold on till I get an answer, that is your call.

There hasn't been a lot of interest here. I was going to put them up on ebay but I can hold off for a while. Try to make sure they will fit your bike and let me know.

These weren't actually on the bike when I got it. The wiring pig tail was connected though so I have to assume that they were on the bike at one time.

I'll take some time in the next day or two and determine exactly how it mounts up. Then we can compare some measurements and go from there.

Assuming it is the correct bag bracket set (or close) mounting should be pretty easy - especially since it has the complete trunk support pieces (neither of mine did)

From memory the forward mounting point for the bag brackets use the passengers foot rest bolts and the rear upper point uses the original rear turn signal's holes (signals get moved to rear of bracket). Any additional mounting of the trunk support MAY require creative thinking. I removed the rear grab bar and drilled thru the aluminum posts left behind.

I can post old pics when I get a chance.

That is what I thought when I first looked at this rack. There are a couple steel extenders bolted to the rear foot rest mounts giving a mounting hole about 2-1/2" behind the foot pegs. I was thinking that the rear/upper mounting points were either the indicator mounts or the grab bar mounts.

Like I said, I'll take a closer look today and get some measurements for ttssyf4

I appreciate all the help guys. The more information the better. One of the nightmares would be not having a little piece required when trying to mount this on the bike. 😃 Then trying to fab something together. Once I have some pics we can try and work out the details of how it goes together. It sure sounds like it will fit just fine so working out all the details on how to mount it and ensuring the mounting hardware is there is next. Pics and measurements will help for sure. Those extenders sound important to the task for sure.

Some pics(ignore the packing tape temp plate mount!) and measurements:

    On the bag rack:

The rear mounting ears are 8" apart and 16-1/8" +/- oc from the lower forward mounting points on the arms. There is about 11-1/2" drop from rear to front mounting points.

These correspond to the steel extension brackets on the rear foot peg mounts and the bolt just in front of the rear turn signal mounting points, just below the fender strut/seat rail. As Metal_Bob said, the rear indicators get relocated to the the bag rack below the trunk.

There is a 1/4 inch difference in the top ear mounts and about a 2 inch difference in the bottom mount point. I think this may be because my bikes PO put an aftermarket exhaust on. I do have holes to mount the lower mount point in so I think it would work. Worst case scenario I have to use a thick washer at the top and a 1" spacer at the bottom and it should fit. The drop height of 11 1/2" is spot on so I think the critical points are met. I am not against doing some small mods to make it work. I don't think it will be that big of a deal. Lets see what the shipping options are.

I have yet to get the shipping quote but there is another set of OEM bags for a 1983 Maxim just posted. You might want to see if these will work for you. I'm not sure is the $75.00 he mentioned is shipping or if that's what he wants for the bag kit.

I'll still the shipping quote as soon as I can break free to do so.

    OK,

Shipping is going to be around $78.00 to Benton, AR. Via USPS parcel post/standard post in 3 packages.

UPS quote $300.00+ for one of the 3 packages so I'm guessing that that's out.
