Anyone have an EZ Pass or regional equivalent for/on their bike? I just bought one for my car and I'm considering one for the XJ. I don't really want to stick it to anything, though. Can I get away with having it in my jacket pocket?
    What do you guys think?

you can put it in your pocket. shouldn't be a problem. Could always do what my friend did... he stuck it to the back of his license plate.

In many U.S. states (particularly east of the Mississippi) there are these wonderful inventions called toll roads. Some are private, others are publicly owned. The road is built with bonds that are paid for with the tolls collected from the people that use the road in question. An EZ-Pass allows a person to have an account linked to a bank, or credit card so you get charged automatically when going through a toll booth. The advantage is that you don't have to stop and pay the toll.

Personally....if I have to pay a toll it better be so I can drive onto a ferry.

I have one here for the baltimore tunnels. I tired it in my pocket. They rarely ever read it. Then I just used a couple zip ties to attach it to the handle bars and then I got my fairing and the velcro straps like the car windshield.

Some states have one that mounts on top of the license plate with the plate bolts.

Whatever route you go, register the bike plate with the ezpass people and then you don't get the toll and the fine just the toll.

Hmm. I don't intend to be on toll roads much with the bike I am hesitant to get a separate pass. If I do, though, I'll most likely try the cable tie method.

You don't need a seperate pass. Atleast in MD you get one and move it from vehicle to vehicle.

I have one that I share with a car, a jeep, a truck and my bike. But all the plates are listed on the account so if I forget it or it doesn't read I just get chraged the toll and not the fine.

They are not always roads. In our case, we have a restricted-use lane on I-35 that is a very heavily traveled road that goes through downtown Minneapolis and is usually plugged up during rush hour. This lane is free for car pools and motorcycles, cars with just one person in them have to pay to use it. The idea is to lower the gasoline consumption and traffic congestion. Not sure whether it works for that, but I do like having a lane just for me when everyone else is crawling along at 5mph.

I'd get a separate pass so I don't have to cur and re-cable tie the original every time I wanted to take the bike. I could share a pass, absolutely. But I'd never remember it for whichever wheels I've got on whatever day. If it's in a pocket, I check those before I take the jacket off.

Canada has its own host of toll roads, including the famous Highway 407 in Toronto, one the first booth-less toll-roads in the world. Although I don't think Manitoba has any (they're in talks). Basically EZ-Pass is the east-coast US toll road transponder. It's read by sensors as you drive under them or through booths, and bills your account for driving. Highway 407 utilizes both a transponder system and a license-tag system that bills your vehicle. Ez-Pass has installed a similar system in many parts, with the name EZPass Express, just drive on through, if you have a transponder it bills your account, if not you receive a notice in the mail and pay it that way.

I am surprised that it does not work in your pocket. I have a friend who takes care of the ezpass account at work, he stopped at a toll booth to pay with cash but he had a work ezpass in his glovebox and the system read it. The toll taker would not take the cash, so he had to clear it up later because his personal car plate was not in the system.

I am surprised that they don't let motorcycles pay reduced tolls. My uncle used to have a small motorcycle trailer he pulled behind his Goldwing, anytime you are pulling a trailer you have to pay by the axle in Md. He was paying 3x the normal toll because of the trailer, even though it was a motorcycle.
