I am very partial to '82 XJ750J Maxim's....Maybe I can get my wife or stepson into riding with me someday.....

Going to look at this bike today....

40k miles...$1000...maybe a little pricey....I will look it over good....

Any thoughts.....I am not big on red....nothing that a coat of black paint will take care of.....

    http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/mcy/3999596830.html

Just went & looked at bike.....nice guy....he will take $800.....

No airbox or boots....intake manifold boots in great shape....missing mirrors.....gas tank needs cleaning inside...few dents in tank....new back tire.....carbs need to be gone thru....exhaust system in great shape....better than mine....dead battery.....maybe just needs recharge....original front brake lines....cant tell on back one....he indicated clutch was fine....???....missing emblem on right rear cover.....

What else.....for 30 + yrs old.....??? Won't know unless I buy it & go thru it...

hmm.....looks ok for the age but seems a little pricey considering the work/parts that your gonna need to get it running. If the price were $500 i'de say go for it but hey it's your money.....lol. Honestly, if you wait a week or so he will probly drop the price more. Cash talks too. Good luck.

I bought the exact same bike for $900 and was way worse than that one.No matter what one you buy and for what price yer going to dump money into it all the way around.I personally think its worth it,Look at what your going to have after its all done(mine was rattlecan black I went back to that original red) It is a real nice color with a few extra coats of clear. So in my opinion I would say do it.

Sounds like the same bike that was in irvine or OC or where ever it was... What's up with the no air box on those bikes. I'm trying to get my brother something that he can learn and ride on so I sent it to him. Told him start at 400-450!!! Parts and not running for a yr???? No air box who knows what's in there till you take apart the carbs. Failed pod job???? That's opening a hole can of.... Jets??? Tune up... Valves for sure will need to b done or he would have listed it for sure! brakes reworked what does that mean???

It's a non-runner which means it's only worth $300 tops; right now it's a parts bike with potential.

GET A COMPRESSION TEST; too many "bad omens" there. If it makes good numbers, $300. If not, I'd pass unless you need a lot of parts.

For it to be worth $800 it would have to run; not be a long ways from it.

    mtnbikecrazy,

if you got yours for $1000 like that....you got a great deal.....that looks like it roll out of the showroom....

I will wait a week to see if he calls back.....I will hit him with a much lower price....

What about the 40k mileage at this point ???

Is there any thing to be concerned about ???

Is there a point at which one should pass on these bikes at a certain mileage now matter what the physical condition looks like ???

Mileage, really depends if it was cared for, if the valves were never adjusted, that could be bad news bears for the plant. X2 on a compression test.

mtnbike, Are you sure that pic you posted of your bike was not a 1983 Yamaha photo ad......

Sure looks damn nice.....nicer than my 1982 750 Maxim....the PO of that bike must have kept it in his garage 100% & only drove it in sunny weather...

I paid 8 bills for mine last year. It had 7,800 miles on it and ran, albeit not very well (purrs like a kitten and goes like hell now). 8)

In my opinion $800 is too much for that. I agree with what Fitz said.
