we currently own a 1982 maxim 650. It has a IC ignitor(TID14-06 5G2-10) and a Pick-up Coil (5G2-10). we are currently planning on buying another set of IC Ignitor(TID14-02 4H7-10) and Pick-up Coil(PU2-12-01) which came off a 1980 maxim 650. will it be ok to install the pick-up coil and ic ignitor of the 1980 maxim650 to our 1982 maxim650?

In 82 Yamaha added the side stand switch and relay to prevent riding with the side stand down. The 82 TCI has an extra connection which allows the safety circuit to kill the ignition.

I'm surprised the pick up coils aren't the same. Perhaps the connectors were reconfigured to allow for that extra connection.

You should be able to make it work easily enough, although you'll loose the side stand protection.
