help needed, carb mount rubers cracking all over

    help needed, carb mount rubers cracking all over, doz anyone know a part number or any that will fit from another bike, its a xj400 special none uk jap inport with a 4cyl ie 4go engine. lovely old girl needs to live on.

    an effective fix for this is rubberized undercoat that they sell for cars, you need to clean them first with laquer thinner and don't get any inside but it really works well, i did it to my rd350 about 12k miles ago and it held up extremely well.

    For starters, if the cracks don't go all the way through (flex them from inside with a fingertip) then they can be repaired using a number of different techniques. I packed mine with automotive high-temp black adhesive RTV silicone sealant.

    Here's the easy part: The American market 550 intake manifolds have 4G0 part numbers. They're the same as any 550; at least our 550s.

    If it turns out you do need to replace them, by all means get ahold of XJ4Ever; he does ship Internationally. But then again, since they appear to be common to the 550s, I doubt you'll have problems sourcing them locally. Just have a local Yammery check the UK part number for you; if it starts with 4G0 you're in good shape. If not, we have them over here.

    You can also further repair/strengthen them by stretching a bicycle inner tube over them. I'll try to find the thread where it was posted.

    thanks for all the great replies, i know one has a air leak for sure, think i will try the ruber primer on them all befor i decide to replace but at least you have cleared up what others should fit.

    (Yamaha XJ 550 (1981-1984)
    before i spend the £76.00 doz anyone know if they will fit.

    sun is out sure the xj will be as soon has i through the carbs back on.
    whats a little air leak between friend.

    well a shop not to far from me managed to get me some, think i paid £40 for the 4 av slept since then so cant be sure on the price. :)
