Intermittent tach/speedo lights??

So I had a post about my headlight not going to high beam, but I also mentioned my tach and speedo light weren't working either.

Anyways, last night I was forced to ride at 10pm from work, yep, long ass day. I didn't know what to expect as I've never ridden at night AND I know my tach/speedo lights don't work.

I turn the key and the tach and speedo lights came on. This has never happened before. Don't get me wrong I'm friggin grateful for it lol but any ideas why it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't? What can I check? I have wiring diagram but God help me with that chart LOL.

And another thing, riding at night is awesome! Nice and cool out, no traffic, it's perfect!

 

Did you take the instrument pods and the headlight bucket apart, as was suggested to look for any loose/shorted connections?

We can only make an educated guess, but you'll need to look for yourself to find what the real deal is.

 

Yep, i looked in the bucket, everything was connected. Except for those 3 prongs that the PO hooked up to have the headlight connected to ignition..... the only thing disconnected is the plug that plugs into the headlight.

 

What about the instrument pods? Did you trace the wiring there? Are you sure that the lights are not working at night? Did you try turning the bike on/off a few times and looking? Maybe your headlight repair already fixed this issue

 

what about ignition harness? i know my old rd if i fiddled with key..i could run with no lights..(dont ask me why i did that lol)
