    I just bought an 1983 XJ750 SECA...
Saw it on Craigslist on Friday morning and just thought I'd text the owner to get an idea about the bike...well one thing lead to another and soon I'd asked him if he's accept $300? We settled on $350.
Bike was up in Kiel WI about an hour North of me...went up there this morning...it looks better in the picture, but still not too bad...it's got a title and a crankcase/air cleaner box full of oil and gas. Against my better judgement I asked the owner if it started...turned over and caught faster than my well tuned Maxim! Although it idled well, the throttle was "mushy" ie poor throttle response. We shut it down...all electricals seemed to work fine so I bought it! BTW...side covers are not pictured, but included.
Now I need to figure out a way to get it 50 miles without access to a pickup or trailer? I would try riding it home, but I seriously think BigFitz'd ride over from Pig's & Chicken MI and kick my arse!!!
    Any suggestions?

find a buddy / family member with a pickup truck and a couple straps.

never ride an old bike any further than around the block for a test ride without a full brake, tire, and engine oil service.

I'll let you borrow my trailer in exchange for the bike :)
At $350....even if it didn't run you got a fantastic deal.

The bags and fairing are worth more than $350.00 Not to mention the stereo(if its not from 1983 also).

    Great find!

    +1 on the U-haul.

I suggested Uhaul because I was under the impression he was asking for ideas because 1) he doesn't have a vehicle, 2) he doesn't know anyone with a vehicle. 3) so uhaul gives him the option of doing it by himself if need be and at his convenience.

50 miles ain't too bad. could you find a way to take a 35mph route? slow and easy.
maybe a can of seafoam and some fresh gas, it might be running like a top when you get home.
do you belong to the AAA? know anybody that does.....just in case :)
give the front brake a few real hard squeezes before you start out, put some air in the tires, screw your head on tight, you'll make it.
    it's a yamaha

Nice score. At first glance it doesn't look like the stock fairing. But still a great deal stock or not.

I would err on the side of caution and rent a u-haul as suggested by others.

but I seriously think BigFitz'd ride over from Pig's & Chicken MI and kick my arse
Added bonus, you would avoid the arse whoopin'.

I've got a neighbor with trailer, problem is I haven't got a hitch, and I don't know if asking to borrow his truck as well would fly...so rent-a-truck here I come. Has anyone ever taken Menard's up on their "Rent this truck for $19.99 no mileage" offer?
Yeah, the bike was a good deal at $350...that front fairing is a Yamaha badged up Vetter Windjammer(It's coming off) but the rear bags look like the stock bags (the other side has some road rash...their coming off too).

Patmac, what are you plans for the bags and would they fit on an 81XJ650 Maxim?
Color is wrong, but I have never had much fashion sense.

Indeed a running seca 750 for that price is amazing! I wouldn't ever expect to pay less than $700 for such a deal, but considering the full dress it has it's worth way more than that. Very nice!

If your neighbor has a trailer then I would go the rental pickup route. It's far easier to transport a bike in the back of a trailer than the back of a box truck, easier in and out and cheaper on gas. Either way be sure it's strapped in nice and snug and get that baby back home! Congrats.

Nice find. I had hoped to find something like that when I was looking. But there isn't much by way of variety in my neck of the woods.
