you can try the RTV black silicone...from a hardware store or auto parts store...I just tried it today...unfortunately I think Ive got too many cracks on my carb holders so i've got to replace them...good luck on yours...

Any flavour of Permatex silicone is fine. Yamabond is used more for case halves I think. No gaskets in there.

This is the best of the lot, but any of the clear, blue or black varieties will work just fine. Just don't buy the stuff for sealing bathtubs.

i used hondabond on mine, same thing i think, not really silicone its thinner
    and seems to stick better
what ever it is, it don't leak anymore
squirt some in the corner of a baggie twist it a few times then snip a tiny hole in the corner, squeeze it out like the bakers do decorating a cake
not too much, you don't want it floating around in the motor
do both sides of the gasket

I'm with MacMcMacmac on the copper silicone sealant.

I used it when I replaced my valve cover gasket and it worked great - no leaks.

Check if Rick Massey has psoted the details of how to refit a new valve cover gasket - doing it right will save the problem of having to do it again.

I've had good luck with Permatex Black. Yamabond is high dollar stuff meant for the case halves, I wouldn't recommend it for your valve cover unless it is all that there is available. Additionally, the new grey stuff from Permatex is supposed to be a suitable replacement for Yamabond at a resonable price.

I have use Loctite® products with good results, for jobs like this they make a non hardening product, that was the cheapest at the store NZ$8.00. Yamabond is very good stuff and can be used, heard of people who use it on everything, even non Yamaha bikes 8O , if you do a lot of bike work it would be a good buy, but it is expensive  especially for a small one off job like this.

Either way use it very sparingly, a little goes a long way and on a gasket such as the valve cover is probably not needed.
