I've seen that a few times,I love the sound of grinding crash bars in the tight bits.

youtube "gymkhana motorcycle" notice how they steer with the throttle.

Impressing, considering he rides a pretty big bike!

I think he uses the rear brakes a lot more than the front brakes, because his right hand is already very busy with the throttle and he probably doesn't pull the clutch completely very often. Well, I'd like to know exactly how he can do it...

while no expert, I'd say that fuel injection has been modified to give him very precise throttle control, and he probably doesn't use either brake except when slowing to get into a turn. I think you're right that the rear would be used more as the front would stand him up too much.

One of the things that this and the other vids remind me is how important it is to *look* through your turn. They harped on that in MSF, and it's still something I have to remind myself.

That is one of the best examples of how to ride a big bike in tight conditions.
The Gymkhana technique differs from what most riders in the US do, in that the cutch is never used unless the intent is to come to a complete stop. All of the low speed manouvers are accomplished through throttle and rear brake control. The result is extremely rapid transitions. Pay close attention to how much the riders in this video are using their legs and hips to help steer the bike during rapid, tight radius, turns.

And then there's the first few seconds of this:

Practice, practice, practice. I'd love to be able to do that at a stoplight....stupid laws about having to put a foot down for two seconds not withstanding.

However they do it it'll be a long while before I'll be able to do those maneuvers. All they're teaching us in the MSF is to ride the clutch for slow sharp turns, which has been kind of hard to do on the Honda Nighthawk 250 they have me on. The clutch literally has a half inch between fully engaged and fully disengaged and the first gear is really snappy.....second too for that matter, I find myself riding in 3rd when we're supposed to be in 2nd. Or are those things normal?

Low gears on the 250 were far from snappy for me. Throttle control is where it's at. I never used the clutch except from standstill, even when they "recommended it", including u-turns.

True, but still pretty impressive the height and distance he gets considering it's a 750 with all the police gear.

And could still be a usefull technique instead of ploughing into an obstacle that drops in front of you.
