spent the last five days designing and about 5-6 hours drilling. But the out come is a one off rotor that looks bad ass... will be a great add-on to the XJ650 Cafe

yes they are all chamfered... I never thought you could get dizzy from looking at a drill press......

I'm not an expert of disc drilling, but the most outer holes look awfully close to the edge, aren't you afraid they will cause the disc to crack from the edge to these holes? Same comment with the three-holes-in-a-row pattern in a radial direction, I'd be concern with cracks developping between these holes.

I always thought the idea when drilling a rotor was that NONE of the holes should "line up" with each other, radially; specifically to prevent such cracking.

I have to agree that the rotor being discussed may have been a tad "over drilled."

I have two drilled rotors; one, an EBC came that way; the other I sent out and had professionally done. Both have way fewer holes and none of the holes are "radially" in line with each other, as above.

I hate to have to rain on your parade.

    I think you over-did it.

Where the Pattern you designed has 13 Holes from Inside -to- Outside - back to
Inside will be very vulnerable to sustaining a fracture.

    I hope not.
But, from where I'm sitting ... it looks pretty scary with that long "V-shaped" series of vent holes extending from the Inside of the Rotor ... out and back!

30 to 40 drilled Vent Holes is within the recommended range to dispel the heat and prevent the Rotor from cracking along a line of Vents too closely drilled.

    You've got over 130!

Not sure how this will turn out for you, but I had a friend who did this for his dirtbike and it pooched the rotors, so he needed to get new ones.

It does look cool though, good luck!

Well as of now it is turning great installed last night. With the type of metal the rotor is make of and the amount i drilled it should be ok. I did allot of testing this morning and last night with really hard braking. No cracks at all. The rotor really doesn't heat up. I went from 60 to 0 and the rotor was warm nothing more. I did that about 10 time and rotor never got more than warm. There was no warping during drilling. Lots of drilling lub and drilled in a circular pattern never the same area back to back.. I was going for a one off and i got it and still great braking. Old one was really warped

I think most of the comments are aimed at long term defects over a given period of use. Keep a close eye on your rotors over the coming months and source new ones if they start to develop any faults.

All comments are made with your welfare at heart, no one would want you to have an accident and lots of accidents are caused by 3rd parties pulling out in front of us.. you do need to stop and sometimes you need to do so quickly!

Contrary to popular belief a drilled disc gets hotter....less meat...anyway good onya for being different! How about next time the word Yamaha in drill holes? :)

    Sweet!!!

    Very nice.

Alot of work that shows, beautiful work.
I get too hard on rotors when I swap tires, I went a different route.

1981 xs1100 front rotors, already slotted.
But you have to mill out the calipher mounts where the rotor
Fits through. The 11 rotors are over twice as thick.
