I've taken my 82 xj750 on a 250 mile run a few weeks back, but planning a 500+ mile run (2 dayer) starting tomorrow. The 250 mile run was 2 up, but this run is solo. This will be a good test as I am running mostly 65 and 75 mph roads. I'll try to get a few pix (Southern Arizona) along the way. :)

With a few more trips you'll be thinking 500 miles a day isn't enough.

It was actually about 250 miles each way and I stayed overnight in Yuma :) It was a great run. As for the bike, it loved 75 mph :) Only issue I had was the wind turbulance at 75 when I was using my highway pegs. My legs funneled the wind right to me(kinda defeats the purpose of a windshield). When I used the main footpegs n knees hugging the tank, I had 0 wind turbulance and she wanted to run at 85. lol I had to check myself a couple of times cuz she was running goooooood! Got to the last leg up the mountain to Prescot(absolutely beautiful run in the mountains) and they had construction w/flag man and pilot car. I shutdown the bike n waited 30 minutes or so for the pilot car. Seemed like forever. Over all, it was a good run, but at 54 years old, my body can't take 500 miles without grumbling a little. hehehe Here is a pic of the bike at the Yuma Proving Grounds.(camera phone sux)

BTW I figured out the gas mileage and I got 46 mpg on the trip with the majority at 75mph. I ran solo, but had overnight and cold weather clothes in the bags. Not bad for a bagger. I did run marvel mystery oil in my tank, about an ounce for each fillup. It's a good upper cylinder lube.

    Nice to see it Ray.

My son and I ran through the Upper Pennisula ( michigan ) a few weeks ago, before he headed to basic training.

We had 500 miles at the end, with an overnight stay in Munising. Like you, the bike seemed to really like cruising at 75 ( mine's only a 700 ) on the open roads.

As K-moe mentioned, the more I rode distance, the more I liked it. I thought I would be crazy sore, but longer stints were not bad. I tended to start to 'Zen' and really got into the cruise.

Engine size has little to do with it. My 550 is plenty happy flying along at 75 ~ 80mph all day too.

Dang! I must be doin something wrong. The best I get on the interstate at 75 mph is 39-40 with my Midnight 650, and my bike is stock and runs perfectly. Running around here at a steady 60, I usually get 44.

I don't know if anyone here does it, but I use marvel mystery oil in my gas. I usually pour about an oz per tank to help lube the upper cylinders. On my 1200 goldwing, it gave me almost 5 mpg more. On this bike, it probably boosts it 2 to3 mpg. I've also used 2 cycle oil at the same mix. Be sure its the ashless kind(new formula) or your bike will smoke. Even if it doesn't help gas mileage, I'd still use it for the lubing factor.
