Yes, but I wouldn't do it. These bikes are too heavy and not built for that kind of stress.

i could tell by the amount of mud hidden in various spots (under the chain guard plate, on top of exhaust, in air box, under back fender etc..) on my bike that mine was used for trails before i got it, but i have never taken it off road myself.

    OK, fine.

Does this count? I was maybe 300 feet off the road...

I did a 10 mile run on a dirt road and before it was over, my headlight fell out! I lost a few other screws too. I had to go through the bike and re-tighten everything down again! No more dort roads for me.

I took a coastal road for it's winding turns, but at one point it went to packed gravel and eventually to dirt then to loose gravel, back to dirt and finally, after about 10 miles back to pavement. That was the slowest most hair raising 10 miles on a bike I've ever done. Won't be doing that again any time soon. Fortunately nothing fell off, but when I hit the loose gravel the bike sank about 4 inches and came to a stop and I almost fell over. It was a bit sketchy getting it out, but I made it.

:D cyclenoob luv the two dirt bikes and Big F anything off road is off road.
I once saw a vid shot in the boon docks somewhere this guy was trying to jump his maxim over a small dirt road by racing up from the side (which was sloping) had very little success

The suspension is too soft and not enough travel - you could fix that.
The weight bias is too much on the front end, compared to a "dirt" bike - you can't change that. In a turn, the front end will wash out first, putting you on your chin.
My other property is 1/4 mile down a dirt (sand, clay) road. I ride in the grass rather than the "sugar sand" and my bikes bottom out under 20 MPH. 3 feet from barbed wire !!
