Hey all im not much of a long distance rider if its longer then lets say an hour so with my house being roughly only 2 hrs and 30 mins from my college i was curious to see if my bike would have any trouble riding for this distance? I just bought a new rear tire, front tire is newish also, new oil and filter, new air box, spark plugs are new, and carbs were cleaned and seats and syncs were all good. So my question would it have any problem taking this trip up and back in a 3 day span? Thanks all

Valve clearances in spec or done within the last 5K miles?

As long as the bike isn't running lean or having carb/float issues and the valves are in spec, you should be able to ride it all day without worries.

when I go home from work for a few days it generally looks about like this.
Wednesday: ride 7 hours (only stop for gas, bathroom, and ferry) from NH to NY
Thursday: maybe a few >50 miles.
Friday: try to get in a 150+ mile ride with friends.
Saturday: maybe 50-100 miles hoping around visiting people
Sunday: ride 7 hours (only stop for gas, bathroom, and ferry) from NY back to NH.

As long as they have all their maintenance taken care of these bikes will go as long as you can.

You might want to think about the seat also. Over Labor Day weekend, I rode 400 miles and my bum got sore. You could get a gel pad or sheep skin.

There's a rider on here that was / is going long distance, he mentioned flying through mexico doing 80 - 85 for hours on end.

Do the aforementioned maintenance, and you're good to go.

My x and vmax did 900 miles last weekend. 200 of them were in the rain. Not a single issue.

took my maxim to cali this summer, and on the way back made the 1000 miles from cali to colorado in 24 hours and then the remaining 1000 miles home in 23. cranked at 85 all the way through nevada and nebraska and all those 75mph states, not a single issue running her for hours on end cause theres nothing to stop for.

then this last weekend did 2000 miles round trip from wisconsin to DC with the lady on the back and had not a single hiccup.

If i were you, other than what you already did, i'd replace the fusebox with a new blade style box, just another preventive thing, and not something that you "need" to do, but could spare you from a hold-up if the old spring clips in the 30yr old stock fusebox give out, as they have been known to do.

Damn you are hardcore! Nice job! I'm lucky if I can get my Fiance' to go out for half an hour on the Maxim X and she is afraid of the vmax, I've never once even got up to speed quickly with her on it. I drive slower on my bikes with her than one could on a moped.

I've never been on a really long ride myself, around 150-200 miles or so at a clip. You guys are hard core.

Ryan, a short distance is all my wife is good for as well, and I make sure I baby it when riding two up too.

If she knew how fast the X actually is.........
Let's just say I'd hope she never finds out. Because she'd make me park it and the only thing she'd let me ride would be a moped.
