Thursday evening I was out mountain biking with some friends and took a pretty nasty endo and landed on my left shoulder from about seven feet in the air. The er doc says I have a level 3 ac joint seperation but fortunatley no broken bones and it could take as long as 12 weeks to fully recover. Has anyone here had an injury like this and how long did it keep you off the bike? I have an appointment with an orthopedic/sports doctor Tuesday for a follow up and will know then if I need surgery to fix this or if it will heal on it's own with rehab. :( :(

I had basically the same, except my front tendon had to be removed. I was out for a while, but 1.5 year later I took second place in the national’s in power lifting in Belgium.
Knock on wood; I never had a problem after the surgeon fixed my shoulder. It's been 12 year now.

Robert - did you get the petcock kit yet?

My head did hit the ground pretty hard. There is about a 2 inch crack on the left side of my helmet where it impacted. That is good to hear about your shoulder Nammy, right now I'm just trying to figure out how to get some decent sleep because even with ice and percocet it still hurts bad when I lay in bed or in the recliner
I'll Let you know what the doc says Tuesday.
    Ride safe- James

Nammy, yes I did. It showed up Friday. Thank you very much.

Fozzie, I've always had good results from Valium/Diazepam. Pain just goes away and assures a good nights rest.
    Your results may vary.
Side effects include fatiuge, dizzyness, dry mouth, nausia.
Do not take this medication and operate heavy machinery or drive a vehicle.
    Blah blah blah...

Update- I saw the ortho/sports doc today. He said it is a minor level 1 seperation and I should be back to full strenth in about five weeks. He gave me range of motion and stretching exercises to do and said after two weeks to hit the weight bench to rebuild strenth in the shoulder and I can ride when I can reach the bars without any pain. I got lucky, he said from that height I could have very easily have broken a collar bone or even had serious neck injuries.
