I need a new set of 86 xj maxim airbox to carb boots, mine are hardened and won't go on the bike. They are no longer in stock or able to be ordered at dealers. Any leads or does someone have some they would like to sell. Thanks, Ben

I have some off of my 86 Maxim X 700. They aren't perfect, but they seal. Is your bike a 700, or will mine work for you? I was thinking around $20 including the shipping. You could always buy brand new ones at powers-edge.com, thats where I buy my OEM parts.

Do you have the clamps for the carb side also?

I have some, I'll have to check and see. I know I have at least 2 of them.

I have been told to put a drop or two of glycerin
in the hot water for softening hard boots. I bought
the glycerin but have not yet tried it. Will do that
    and report back.

Is boiling or heating with h2o and glycerin supposed to renew, or just make pliable enough to put on and then they will probably reharden after cooling?? Please do post you results from the trial.

I tried it without and with glycerin. First time I brought water to a
boil, turned off the heat and dropped the boots in. Removed them
while the water was just warm, let them set out and they did reharden.
Then tried the same thing, but with 3 drops of glycerin in the water.
Same drill and they rehardened again, although a slight deformity
in one airbox groove was improved.

Just speculating, but if the boots are inserted while warm they may
conform and seal better in the airbox.

As a side note, when I install carbs I spray the inside of the carb
joints and the inside and outside of the airbox boots. Slicker is
    quicker! :!:

So you heated them and then put on bike while still flexible, did you have enough time to get them on in position before they rehardened?
