Replace starter button or just get whole new assembly?

On ebay, it's about $18 for just the start button to place back inside the starter assembly (with the kill-switch and throttle). If I wanted to just replace the whole thing, could I swap in an assembly from another bike, or would it have to be the same model?

A swap from another bike would probably require rewiring since the connection points are likely different. I'm sure it's doable if you're not afraid of electrical work.

Here's a cheaper button source, not including shipping: https://www.mikesxs.net/product/24-6525.html

Did you check with XJ4Ever? I believe his price for the new button kit is a tad less than $18. OK, a lot less.

XJ4Ever has an "interesting" setup, he doesn't really have a website or anything.... other than here. Send a PM to username "chacal" and tell him what you need.

XJ4Ever now carries a lot of things that aren't in the current "catalog" which pretty much dates from '09. The recent appearance of a bunch of new categories in his section of the forum seem to indicate an update may be in the works.

Meanwhile, simply asking the man is the easiest way to find what you need.

I bought a new button from XJ4Ever, worked great and it was cheap (under $10).

I searched for a replacement assembly for ages and found nothing, button is the way to go.
