I replaced the starter button on my Seca 550 today. That required removing the throttle cable from the cam on the handle. It's kinda tricky getting the ball-end of that cable back into the cam when you slide the handle back on the bar, especially working by myself. Anyone have any tips, or do I have to loosen the cable?

Open the throttle fully, then block the linkage. That will give you TONS of cable slack at the top.

Just be careful not to "lose" engagement with the little 'stub' cable (between the main cable and the linkage down on the carbs.)

BUT....... even if you DO have the stub cable drop out, it IAS possible toget it back in. It'll mean an extra hour of farting around with it and swearing at it, but if you can keep your cool--you can get that back in, too.

Been there done that........hope not to do it again too awefully soon.

At worst, you end up pulling the rack to reinstall it.................

It takes less time if you learn some Japanese profanity.

He's talking about trying to re-engage the little barrel on the end of the cable with the throttle drum while the cable is still under tension.

I gave him the safe, easy way to create some slack in the cable without taking anything apart, as long as he's careful about the dread stub cable (unique to the 550s.)

There's also the "Detroit" method (crude but effective) that I won't share. I wouldn't want to admit to certain things in public.

Don't know how profane it is, but while stationed on Okinawa I learned the term "Ox-om-yoh" (rough translation...I'm pissed off, or this is pissing me off).
The Okinawians used it quite often while working on our equipment, and they were darn good mechanics...I've used it ever since and it really does work...try it!
Stub your toe? Ox-om-yoh! Drop your buttered toast on the floor? Ox-om-yoh! Trying to thread an incredibly fine nut onto a stud you can neither see nor reach, and it keeps falling off and rolling under your toolbox? Ox-om-yoh!

Thank you all for your input. I had a girlfriend pull up on the cable at the carb with a long screwdriver, and that gave me enough slack, and was much easier than doing it myself. :)

was just going to suggest this, sometimes having four hands is much easier than trying to over-work two ;)

Just lubed the throttle cable last weekend and had the exact same problem, huge pain in the rear getting it back on!

Had similar issues with the clutch cable, seemed very difficult to pull the cable end out of the slot by the lever.

Mark the Throwout Arms placement on the Rod.
Using Large ViceGrips with Padded Jaws work the Arm and undo the Lower Cable from the Linkage Attachment Box.

After fitting the Upper Cable-end to the Lever, ... Adjust the Whole Clutch.
