I'd like to find a local source for the one gasket I need to replace on a 38mm brake piston:

Anyone have any experience in car supply stores having gaskets like this?

Ebay FTW here, you can get a pair of seals (fluid & dust) for £5 here, would've thought there'll be twice as many suppliers over in the traditional home of the XJ? I've used Nikone seals and M/C kits & found them good.

As it's only one gasket that I need, the shipping from XJ4ever is prohibitive. That's why I'm asking for alternate sources. :)

You can go into the dealer and buy the piston kit for close to $100.

In the very unlikely event the auto parts store has the same item they won't be able to find it for you because they list them by part number/auto fitment, not dimensions.

Anyone you order from is going to charge shipping.

If you just bite the bullet and order the things (you should replace the dust seal too) from XJ4EVER you'll have them by the weekend........

Plus if I'm seeing what I think I am, that's no gasket, it's a caliper piston seal.

    Which bike is that for?

That is what it is.....if you have to replace the piston as well......then the order to Chacal is now cost-effective.......

If there are any other parts that you will need later, order now so shipping costs are minimized.....or just bite the bullet & get the right part you need from Chacal regardless of the shipping costs.....

You will spend more on gas money trying to find the part all over town and not find it......

When I need parts like that I will be emailing Chacal; he knows the stuff and I don't care about freight/courier charges, its about service and supplying the correct parts even to the other side of the world. Obviously some parts would be prohibitive from a freighting point to NZ, but if it meant keeping me on the road I would do it. Support the man that cares about our pleasure. I have bought stuff from the USA on eBay and the freight was like NZ $7.00 not sure what that is in US $ but surely something like the part you are looking for cannot be prohibitive from a shipping point within the US? can it?

+2 on xj4ever. I would trust an XJ parts specialist over O'Reillys for that item. Bulbs might be a different story, but not brakes.

And if you already have the piston out, then get the rest of the kit for it. I forget, but is it another seal and then the condom?

Plus there's gotta be another part you can add to make it worth a few more bux for shipping. I always think of something that will go bad soon enough. Brake pads, maybe spare carb parts, oil filter?
