My XJ750 came with pods and a four into one exhaust, which according to the very useful formula, calls for a re-jet from #120 to #126. One of the POs changed the jet size to #124. Bottom line, I'm consistently having trouble with hanging revs. from what I have gathered it could be from a lean fuel condition and/or an air leak (i guess one leads to the other). I have checked for an air leak with propane and brake fluid and I have not found one yet. I think the air from the pods is to much for the bike and at this point I want to chuck them out the window.
My goal is to revert to an airbox, will this require jetting back to #120? it seems like the general consensus on the forum is leave pods alone so im not really considering jetting to #126.
Also, i think this might be wishful thinking but has anyone experienced hanging revs due to out of spec valves? (mine are all around 0.05mm-new ones are in tomorrow)
Sneak last Q: does anyone have don't dos when inspecting your rear drum breaks?

    Thanks for the help guys

The biggest mistake you are making is believing that there is a "Formula" to go by.

    Nope.
    There ain't one.

    It's just somebody-elses guess-work written-down and distributed.

IF there WAS a formula, ... there'd be fewer Pod-people scratching their heads and complaining.

If you go back to the stock airbox but keep the 4-1, your ideal jetting will probably be stock or maybe one size up.

A hanging idle is generally due to an out of sync condition.

You cannot properly synchronize the carbs with the valves out of spec.

The hanging idle isn't directly caused by having tight valve clearances; but it's impossible to remedy it with the valves that out of spec.

Which is why valve clearances are the first item in the maintenance section of the service manual.
