I bough the motorcycle a little over a month ago and paid $500.
Since than, I've become more familiar with these types of bikes.
I have noticed, there are a few parts that don't belong to the bike. (Hence all my questions on the forum)
Anyhow, the bike works, well, was working. I took it all apart so I can try to restore it.
This will be a big challenge to me because I know nothing about motorcycle and never drove one until I attended the motorcycle course about 3 weeks ago.
(Checkout my V45 Magna I bought last fall for $600. Still haven't had the chance to drive it, except in the driveway)

Here is a pick of the bike, day 1.

This is what it looks like right now.

Some nice looking bikes and garage! I'm jealous.
I'm sure whatever problem you come across, someone here will be able to help you out. Good luck with the restoration.

I was in your boat about 3 years ago. Picked up a bike for next to nothing - no license - no knowledge about bikes - no tools. A few thousand dollars in tools later, a library on motorcycle technical isses and my license, I'm pretty confident tearing into my bikes now.

I just hope I will be able to put it back all together again.
Now I need to take the rad, pipes, eng out so I can paint the frame.

Didn't have a filter, but SamSr gave me one.
I have about 200 pics of everything I've done so far.

Nammy. Looks like were in the same boat, hope you don't mind me lurking your threads and throwing out some of my own questions.

I picked up a 85 X from my brother in law for the low price of free on June 6th. They just wanted it out of there garage and were going to give it away. Yours looks as though it was in rougher shape from the petcock photo, mine was at least garaged stored and covered for the last 19 years or so (the last license plate expired in March of 89, so it hasn't been ridden on the road since 88)

And the odometer has a whopping 2267 miles on it.

Can't wait to get it on the road in the next month or two.

    Good Stuff.
I was a bit lucky last fall with the V45magna I bought, almost the same scenario as with yours, but 5000 miles. I was having a little problem with it and found out it was the CDI. Found one on eBay, now I just need to wait for it to come in.
The Maxim is a little rough shape, but you wouldn't believe how good the parts are looking now. I’m just about ready to take the engine out for frame painting.
    Good luck with your bike.
