Is there a way to disassemble the speedometer on my 86 Maxim X? the needle and tripodometer work fine, but the odometer will not turn past 10,499. I wanted to go in there and see if I could manually spin it, or if it had metal gears that were rusted, etc.

No, I'm not cheating and turning the miles back. there is a much easier way of that if you are a dishonest person. Not to mention that doing so is illegal.

I'm not sure, but I think you need to cut the housing open to get at it.

The Search function is your friend.

Try 'ugh speedo probs' thread by SecaGirl. It's got some pics, and some differences of opinion, both of which I always like.

And she posted a few other bits about speedos.

One day I'm gonna find out how to link stuff.

    Good luck.

I've dug into mine but it was years ago and I don't recall the particulars. I'm about to perform a frankenstein patch job with two or three speedos to cobble together one useable unit (not to worry Eblo, I'm still gonna buy yours!). I'll have a better opinion as too how doable rolling numbers will be by then.
