Hey guys and gals, I have an 81 seca that I am tring to bring back to a ride-able condition and I have a few questions.
First what else might cause an irregular idle?
I replaced carb joints, air filter, cleaned and adjusted carbs. Now I am looking to the valve adjustments. I checked them, but I do not have a definate set of specs yet for the clearance for a 1981 550 seca.
So exactly what are the specs?
I am currently working on a gsxr1100 streetfighter project and I need/want a bike to ride in the mean time.
Thanks in advance from a first time post'er in this forum, Ryan.

Most likely you need to sync the carbs. This is done with carb sticks also know as a manometer that uses mercury to rise up in glass tubes to measure vacuum. An air leak can also cause this so check the airbox boots and intake boots for leakage.
    Intake valve clearance 0.11mm to 0.15mm / 0.004 to 0.006 in.
    Exhaust calve clearance 0.16mm to 0.20mm / 0.006 to 0.008 in.

    Exhaust: 0.006-0.008 in. (0.16-0.20 mm)

It sounds like the carbs just need to be synced and the mixtures set. The valves need to be at spec first then sync then mixtures. Search the forums for "manometer", I made one from plans on here with a lenth of clear tube and trans fluid and it worked great, plus it cost nothing as I had the stuff already. You will love the 550 once you get it running great. For a little bike they are really quick.A friend has no 06 Dyna and my bike can run side by side with his with no problems. Good luck.

Leaky carb boots will also cause a screwy idle.
