I had an oil leak from my cover so I figured it was my cover gasket gone bad. I just finished switching gaskets and I used a digital torque wrench to make sure I had the cover on just right. I put a circle around the bolt im referring to. I found that that bolt has striped out the hole. I go to tighten that bolt and it would grip a little but never got tight. I have two options to fix this problem aside from just continue riding and keep an eye on it and watch my oil level. A:buy a new motor. B:drill out the head and replace the threding(taking a tone of time and $)

Any one know of any other options? I have thought this through and I'm pritty sure those are my only options right? Any feed back will be helpfull.

What Rick said. It's not that hard, nor does it take a "ton" of time. Just be sure that you have the drill bit perpendicular to the hole. It has to be fairly straight for this to work correctly. Good luck.

Make sure you jam a really well greased piece of cloth into the top of the head to collect the chips.

Ok, I fired up the bike for the first time since the gasket change a few min ago. I can hear a lot more noise up top of the engin then I heard before.....It almost sounds as if im low on oil.....Then, i would let off the gas and the bike would go to idel as a rolled and then with no notice the engin started making a ton of noise and sounded as if the gas was being hit on it.....Is it over heating? or what? I am soo frustraited right now. Im not comfterable even taking it out on main roads right now......The engin sounds like crap, i can hear a ton of gears or whatever moving now and it is an unsetteling sound. As i hot rodded up and down throught the neighborhood for no more than 3min my girl said the bike sounded different, from a distance. But she couldnt discribe it to me....

    Suggestions?.......I need help fellas.

Further to MiCarls post - are you SURE you got all the chips out before you put the cover back on?

Did you loosen or remove anything else? The cam journal caps or the chain sprockets?

Tell us exactly what you did and maybe we can determine what could be your problem.

Another thought - check your spark plug wires. Could be the cap loosened or you don't have them seated on the plug fully.

Give the caps a couple of turns clockwise to tighten them to the wire and then give them a good push onto the plug to make sure they are seated.

Also, if you look in the boot where the plug goes, you should see a tiny piece of metal that cuts across the hole where the top of the plug would be. Make sure it is there or you won't have good contact with your plug causing misfires.

I think the noise was my drive chain on the top of the motor....I was pritty low on oil when I went back out and looked at it. I ran outa sunlight so i had to stop but before i quit i drained the oil and changed the filter, put he plug back in and went in...Ill put oil in it tomorrow when i get off work and see how she sounds. Anyone know what 2.5L= in quarts? I have 4 quarts of 20w40 yamalube. That should be plenty right?

For all practical purposes ... a Liter is damn close to a Quart.

    2.5 Liters = 2.6 Quarts.

    You got PLENTY!!!

    2.5 litres = 2.199 quarts

    2.5 quarts = 2.841 litres

    1 litre = 0.879 quarts

    1 quart = 1.136 litres
