Been doing some reading on the forums here & I would like to know if there is truly a way to make my xj650 sound deeper or more throaty...not looking for super loud, just loud enough not to piss off the police & deep enough for people to take notice. Let me know what I can do. Thanks.

Harley-Davidson Sportster mufflers seem to be very popular for that.

Keep in mind that being a 9000 rpm motor, it's never gonna "rumble" and opening up the exhaust generally just intensifies the howl.

Thanks BigFitz...I understand about the rpms. I wanted it to be a bit louder and deeper than the stock exhaust...way too quiet...also I haven't seen anyone that has kept 2 into 1 & brought the left side over to the right & put them on top of each other coming back. Hope I explained that right. Still trying to get used to all the info out here & maybe someone has posted out there.

If I want my bike to sound like a harley, first I'll remove my brain, then my consideration of others, and finally ..oh snap, I'd never want my bike to sound like a harley! ^_^

The more you increase the diameter of your final exhaust the more you increase/create the lower frequencies resonating in the larger diameter pipe...to a point..get too big and it sounds like a fart can on a honda civic 8O
I tried the sportster mufflers on the stock crossover...

It lowered the tone a little and it was actually quite mellow. Not what I was looking for personally on my build. So I fabricated my own pipes like this and ended up with this...

Even with mine, as the RPMs increase the tone gets raspier, and it was loud! I added 4" baffles to each pipe this year and it toned it down just right.

One problem with bringing the left side over to the right might be room. I had to eliminate my center stand and mounting bracket to make room to bring the exhaust form the center out. something to look at when you consider making a one-off exhaust...

Thanks Mad_Bohemian...I really appreciate your input. I viewed your images on your build...YOU ROCKED IT...love all the fab work you did.

I really don't want the center stand back on the bike but you never know. I know I will have more questions & may pm you when the time comes if it's ok.
