    Hi Guys,

As you may have seen from my new user post, I was given an old XJ550 Maxim US import and will be fixing it up over the next few months after xmas. Now, I was considering customising it as part of the rebuild. What I wanted to know, from our UK members really, is what is the market like for these as stock bikes? If there is a good market for them, I may consider restoring it properly.

    Thanks
    Ian.

I was under the impression that the XJ series was kind of a flop here in the UK.

They always seem to come up cheap, so hack away!

That's what I thought, I'm not going to go crazy, just some personal touches and updating. Thanks Kdub :)

Plenty of xj's and parts available on eBay some imports as well. I bought 2 750,s for 350.00 and restored it fairly cheaply then spent a little more when I was happy. They seem to sell easily enough on the bay but you have a good starting point as it came free!

Good luck, panty of advice hear and it is also free..:)

Hi Cap, yeah I've seen that there's alot of parts available and I'm guessing, particularly with the engine, Seca parts from the same era should be compatible since it's the same engine. I'm hoping to get it back on the road relatively cheap and work on it while it's being used, if that makes sense?

Yeah I couldn't believe my luck when my mate offered it to me lol :)

    Hi Ian.
The XJ models of the early 80's don't seem to have had much of an impact in the UK beyond being seen as steady away commuter bikes. Unlike the XS650 from a few years earlier which seem to be far more collectable and command good prices accordingly. That said they seem to have sold in decent numbers. It's the ideal bike to stamp your mark on.
