I just picked up a blue tick hound mix from the pound today. the dog is suppose to get to be about 50 to 70 lbs and his name is Bow. i plan an taking a quite a few road trips this next riding season and want to bring Bow with me. i've seen a lot of carry bags for smaller dogs which may work for this year but i want something i can use when he's full grown. short of a side car what would be some options? maybe some home made solution or a professional product. i thought about making one out of a storage tub and put a harnes on him to keep him in place but i want to see if there is a better option

That's just wrong. Turned out that he wasn't good with cats either. LOL
I've seen a guy around here that pulls a trailer that looks like a Ford Model C panel van, His 2 dogs ride in it. Also seen big dogs riding in sidecars.

I can't say I'd ever want a pet on the bike with me, sidecar or no. Animals don't reacte like humans, and surviving all the morons on the road means having as much control as possible.

*I* can wear gear to mediate my damage if some idjit pulls out in front of me. If I had a dog on the bike, he'd be dead, and it would be my fault for putting him in that situation.

My thoughts too. Ours rides in a trailer with a very sturdy aluminum tube cage around the box.

My old dog did about 10,000 klm sitting laying on the tank between my legs, we kept each others balls warm. Made him a pad so he had something to grip and a flap over cover a bit like a poncho. He loved it, if i went near the bike anytime he'd hop up ready to ride. He died of time passing, I'm still going.

Dog doesn't seem to think so. I don't ever have to tell her to get in, but sometimes do have to drag her out.

I had one that rode with me many years ago, another wish I'd taken more photos moment. We did the odd interstate trip together, 1000k day no worries, bit of carpet ocky strapped to the tank and were off.
I'll meet Major at the bridge with a few other friends I've outlived.
Friend had a German Shepherd cross that used to walk around and between his wife and him from the front of the tank to the rear of the rack at 120k without a blink.Took him home once for some reason or other he was so comfortable on the bike that he scared the living daylight's of me just walking up and down the bike like he was on a rug at home,he must have weighed over 40kg's.
Tex and Bundy are pretty well known over here. I'm pretty sure most dogs would like this life as opposed to being locked in someones backyard.

That's what I think too, I'd quite like Alfie (my Staffie) to be able to share the XJ with me but I'd feel too guilty if he got hurt as it wouldn't be his choice to have been on the bike like it is with cars (he loves going in my parent's car & jumps straight in as soon as the door's opened, he wears a harness & seatbelt)

I *might* consider taking him in a sidehack if I ever have one, you never know when the right deal will turn up after all, but I can't see me owning the "worst of both worlds" really... No weather/idiot protection coupled with no agility or filtering through traffic :?

well i figured out how to do it i built him a seat bolted to the frame in the same spots the original back seat bolted in. he seems to enjoy it in fact i can get him to go to my bike by grabbing my helmet i have to grab the leash and make him go to the car. i bring my dog everywhere with me except work and i couldnt imaging taking a cross country trip with out him when i can figure out how to get the pictures from my phone on to my computer il upload some.
