the ones from China have some questions, the speedo uses a cable, your yamaha cable i guess. does your cable fit the speedo and is 60kph=1400 rpm.
on your bike? the tach, says nothing about 1,2 3 or 4 cylinder engines, that might not be a problem or it might read rpm times two or half rpm's.

i think i've seen guys on here use the one from the UK successfully

the bottom link is a very good price, as equivelent acewell ones are above £100.
i'd like to know if anyone has fitted one ,as a wiring diagram would be helpfull.
17" wheels would be a problem though as mine are 18", unless its programable for different sizes?

no ,the specific bike ones will be made for that bike, the number of cylinders will dictate the rpm display.
some have gearbox sensors for speedo.
it may be possible to transpose some types, but you would need a good wiring diagram for each bike , and be prepared to spend some hours figuring out the swopping of the wires.

The one the OP linked is a crappy copy. Based on reports from some of the scooter forums, the copies tend to be inaccurate when new, break (also when new), and generally suck a$$. The KOSO gauges are OEM parts for Brammo, and a few other small motorcycle manufacturers. I saw KOSO gauges as OEM on something from the big 4 recently, but I can't remember which model.

ithink the yamaha sr is a twin cylinder, if its an electronic tacho it may only read half the revs.

    No no no.

The bikes are 4-strokes. A mechanical tach, coming off the camshaft, will have the same relationship, RPM-wise to the crankshaft regardless of the number of cylinders. Four-stroke camshafts turn at half crank speed regardless of the number of cylinders.

The SR500 has a mechanical tach. It will work; there's only a minor issue: the XJ550 redlines at 10K. The SR tach will spend a lot of its time "wound tight." The whole XJ "fun zone" is red on the SR tach. The XJ650R (and Euro-spec XJ650, not the Max) had a simple, "canned" tach like that too, but with a more "XJ-friendly" redline. Use the SR tach for now, and keep your eyes open for one from an XJ650.

The speedo should work fine. In regard to speedometers, virtually all Jap bikes from the mid-late '70s right up into the '90s with mechanical speedometers have the same drive ratio, so you can even swap between most manufacturers and have them work fine (as long as the bikes have the same size front wheel.) Then again, virtually all Jap bikes of the era over about 500cc had 19" front wheels.

Those clocks should work fine (other than torturing the tach.) And of course, provided they aren't gummed up or in need of attention themselves. http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15303.html

Might want to have a peek at this too: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=19538.html

In your old housing? Why didn't you say so? I thought you were getting rid of the stock cluster. Would have made it even easier...

In the States, we got 85mph speedometers. THAT had to go:
