Well, its been a very slow process around work and school but I'm really getting the itch to finally finish my project. Can't do much in the winter but here are some pics of where I left off in the fall. Obviously needs some finishing touches and polishing, but almost where it needs to be. Yes, I am aware the front break caliper is off I was in the middle of rebuilding that. Also, I think I might ditch that front fender. What do you think? Honest opinions please feel free.

Here is how it looks from the front, before paint and seat.

Leave the front fender. Trim it a bit if you insist, but leave it. It incorporates a nice stiff fork brace hidden under where it mounts to the fender.

Since you didn't fill the badge mounts on the tank, consider a set of spiffy new "Yamaha" badges. Len has them and they're not expensive.

Tidy work; but check MI regs; I think the stop/brake light, if only one, has to be centrally mounted.

And you are gonna get a stripe up your back if you run through a puddy muddle.

keep most of the fender, loose the crash bars and since you ride solo loose the whole passenger peg bracket

yeah crash bars are definitely going. I did wonder if I could take the passenger pegs off because the bolt that holds them on goes all the way through. is that ok?

i think it just goes into a nut welded to the frame. i had to keep the right one for a muffler support but the left one's off

finishing up my 83 xj550 bobber and i originally took the front fender off for aesthetics. i tucked the rear fender in but not as far as yours and removed the passenger foot pegs and mounts and fabricated new mounts and mounted them up front as highway pegs without forward controls. Also had my license plate and brake light where yours is and got pulled over and fix-it ticketed, (I live in Central Oregon though where cops dont have shit to do) im making a cafe conversion kit for my bike when i wanna go on rides with my sport bike friends and regrettably got rid of those rear peg mounts as id liike them now for the cafe kit to get a more laid down/ racing position. your bikes looking great though man!

the back needs some work.... for practicality's sake, and so you won't get pulled over. more and more police officers are pulling fancy bikes over for minor infractions of the law, so you want to know the law, and be legit. besides, i wouldn't want a stripe of dirt down my back after a ride. if there is a way to take the bracket off, i would suggest it if you're not using the thing. it's definitely distracting while i'm looking at the rest of bad assery!! looking really good man!!

    It needs some definition.
Id pick some elements to polish/detail such as clutch cover and fins, maybe get a little black paint on parts of the engine for contrast and find another place for the red (same colour as the wheels)

You've got a fairly large canvas on the battery cover/airbox area for red and white pinstriping/detail/graffiti/whatever. But theres heaps of other options

Take another photo from the side, phot shop it to a silhouette, add the existing details (red&white wheels, and then make your choices from there)

Yeah I do regret cutting the fender back so much. And I really like that style of light but I don't need any tickets. Not sure what ill do yet. I just want it to warm up!

I've had my front fender off.... Right up until I got caught in the rain. Front fender has been on ever since ;)

I was in the rain without my front fender recently. There was so much spray directed at my face that I had to keep wiping the rain off with my gloves. This scratched up my visor so bad that I had to order a replacement. This was the last ride before I winterized it, and I'll have it back on before the first spring ride.
