He could probably get even more for it if he wanted to hassle with eBay.

Did you notice the completely unfaded instruments?

Tempting. If those maintenance records are true, they add a huge value to the bike. Think about it, a PO that logged everything so you don't have to catch up!

it's kinda strange that he would trade it for another bike just like it. wait the ad has been flagged for removal.

It was a completely stock XS650 Special ('78 ~ '80ish) in absolutely perfect stock condition with all of the "normal" stuff done already. AND complete logs and records of all work done. He had it listed for right around $4000.

'81 XS650, 15k on the clock. The pictures looked photoshopped for a hue filter, but it was pretty.

they were likely pics of the bike when it WAS new. since it was flagged for removal it was also likely a bogus ad. some people just have too much time on their hands and no good outlet for their creativity.

I had an add here in wa of a seca 750 with a kerker 4 into 1 for like 450.00. I really wanted that exhaust and the add just kept reposting but the guy would never answer his phone .

    Yeah craigslist can be frustrating

Not at all. When the person that places an ad requests it be taken down, "flagged for removal" is the message you get.

He probably sold it (and probably got the $3950 or whatever it was he was asking.) He said the ad would come down as soon as it was sold. I've seen unfaded instruments before*; the pics weren't fake. The bike had like 15K miles on it; and was obviously garage kept its entire life. Beautiful example.

*I have a set for a 550 Seca stored in a dark place...

Yeah, Hotcakes, it was tasty. I checked Google Cache and the Wayback Machine to see if they happened to get a scrape but no luck.

'81 XS 650 Special. SUPER-clean, all stock, everything works perfectly. Purchased from original owner with 15,198 miles on the clock-15,330 now. He meticulously maintained this bike from new until the fall of 2000 when he changed the oil (again) and stored it for the last 12 years (dry, heated storage). He kept detailed maintenance records, showing religious 500 mile oil change intervals and valve/cam chain/cable etc.adjustments/lube as scheduled in manual. He also replaced the drive chain (sprockets are fine). The only issues I found were age-cracked tires (replaced.. still tubeless), one carb float valve was leaky (Dismantled, cleaned, reassembled/synced both carbs and installed 2 new float valves and airbox filters), and weak battery replaced w/new AGM battery (absorbed glass-mat technology.. no maintenance-no spill- long life). Bike is in absolute perfect running order and looks new!. Strong and smooth throughout RPM range. VERY quiet motor.. no engine noises. Nice original exhaust (not loud). Original tool kit/keyed security chain/owners manual + Clymer service manual w/all maintenance records included. Electric starter works perfectly, or kick start to be cool :) Clear MN title in-hand.

The instruments are the giveaway. The only time that bike's been outside is to put the 15K miles on it. Only two POs (and the seller has only put 200 miles on it) and complete records.

I'm betting he stumbled into a deal, didn't pay very much for it, and is about to make himself a nice profit.

My son has an xs650 Special and one thing I personally don't like about the bike is the handle bars. They don't seem to be as comfortable as my Maxims but this is just my own personal opinion. My bike looks like new again also and it is very comfortable at least for me. I put over $6500 into it but it has been pretty much restored from the ground up. Brought it to a guy I know that does appraisals and he gave me a written appraisal of $6500 so I was able to fully insure it for this amount. I am very happy with it. I sat on a new bike not long ago and didn't like the feel of it at all. I don't know if it is just because I am so use to my bike or if the newer bikes aren't as comfortable anymore but I will stick with my 82 XJ550. :)

If you're like most of us, your butt has customized the seat! Or, maybe, the seat customized your butt...we do spread out a bit as we get old (at least I have). :p

I have no ass but I am getting up there in age....hahaha What I did do was when I redid the seat with a NOS seat cover I had the guy put a little extra foam inside but still, I think that my seat, the reach and the handle bars were much more comfortable, even before I redid the seat, than either the XS series or the brand new yamaha I sat on just a few weeks ago. Again this is just my 2 cents.
