    So I am a young man, 38
I have been suffering with Carpel Tunnel since I was 17
as of late I can not even grip a computer mouse for long periods
    of time
I know last summer it effected my riding some days
I was curious if anyone else suffered these issues
    any tips for combating this
I am not sure if it is weather related or just my health getting worse
is switching my throttle to the left hand even possible?
my right hand is worse than the left
I don't want to stop riding.. but right now my spirits are very
    broken

any advice would be greatly appreciated

My dad had surgery for Carpal Tunnel. It helped him. Don't know if it's an option for you.

Ask your doctor and trust the doctor. That's your best course of action, bar none. Do not let your desire obscure your skepticality: there are 100's of miracle cures and they are complete bumpkus until proven effective with repeatable, falsifiable, double blind trials.

We rebound slower and slower as we get older. I'm 10 years older than you and I started noticing slower healing around 30. Your doctor will help you with the most current and effective treatment.

You should also ask about Seasonal Affective Disorder, all of us Northerns have that right now!

is really nice i have a hard time with the same thing on longer rides which is almost everyday when the weather is nice. this helps a lot and is cheap at most places. for not that much just try it out and see if it helps it help me i have a cruse control of sorts on the throttle it only pinches the rubber to make the throttle stay in place but once i get on the highway at 55 and don't have to change speeds for a long time i use it. check that out to if you want. hope that helps.

I don't have arthritis but found that finding the largest outside diameter grip helps with my numb hands and a cramp buster works well.

I concur with ^. Are you certain it's Carpal Tunnel? Hope you find out what it is and get treatment for it.

    Hey Hotcakesman,

Please seek at least two separate medical opinions before you crack up!

I am fifty years old and suffer from arthritis in both hands, right hip and ankle. I ride regularly, sometimes in mild pain. But I take daily Omega 3 fish oil capsules and I also soak in a hot bath with Epsom Salt dissolved, which really helps.

My arthritis is as a result of a serious bike accident back in 1990, where I fractured two vertebrae, right shoulder blade, eight ribs with a flail chest, two punctured lungs, fractured left radius, and three fractured fingers in the left hand, and a broken right thumb. I wrote off my Goldwing, and a set of steel railings on the footpath.

Keep searching for what suits you. Everyone is different. But do join a support group, if only for their ideas on what can help.

Good Luck and don't give up.

I've got myself a pair of these, I have wrist issues, years of holding things that vibrate and shake as well as maintaining a pincer type grip when trying to fix various assembly's together.
Carpal tunnel and repetitive strain injury are what has been diagnosed. And of course some arthritis, what can I say?I'm wearing out :(
The gloves help a lot, they did take a bit of getting used as the pressure points are a little different.
    But they did help.

I'd consider this before the crampbuster I've heard of a few near misses blamed on similiar things to crampbuster.

To do a left-hand throttle, you could get a "double throttle cable" control pod, and just use the correct side. Unfortunately, this puts all the buttons facing away from you and "down", and your left hand would be pretty busy running the clutch while twisting.

Some guy in AZ went with a thumb throttle, like ATV's and Jet-Ski's have.

I have arthritis in my hands and knees. One thing that helped me is to change handlebars to a position that puts less stress on your wrists. For me that was bars that were nearly straight with risers. Our XJ's have bars that have a lot of turn back and are not all that good for your hands and wrists.

Stock Yamaha handlebars were not made for American shoulders, pure and simple.

I've (so far) owned 5 Yamahas over the years; four of them had their handlebar replaced immediately. Only one escaped it, and that's because the PO beat me to it.

Had carpal tunnel surgery both hands . Helped a bunch. +1 on the cramp buster . I also have a throttle lock( it was around $30). Best mod I made to the bike. Can't recommend it more highly. It took all my numbness away. Gel grips helped alot too as well as more padding on the palms of my gloves. Before the grips, gloves, and throttle lock I could ride 10-15 minutes before pain. Now over an hour no problem. YMMV :)
