Saw this at 2014 Motorcycle Show in Cleveland...

I'm a little late in posting this, but I wanted to show you guys the bike I saw in the custom competition this year in Cleveland. I wonder if it was built by one of us. Overall, it's not my style by far, but you gotta appreciate some of the tricks pulled on this build. Sure put a smile on my face.

 

Is the battery, TCI and rectifier supposed to be inside the gas tank ??

And with all that effort - he shoulda scrubbed the back tire.

 

I believe they're tucked inside that little black box on the swingarm.

 

interesting use of domed nuts, throughout the bike , especially on the engine casings,
no brake light switch?

You mean UNDER the swingarm - I missed that, and it's possible this is a fully operational XJ !!

 

Well, technically you could argue that its inside the swingarm with the way that box goes around it, but yeah, mostly under.

I wish I had paid more attention to the rear brake. I'm not sure if the switch is there or not.

 

To be even more technical, you could say "what used to be the swingarm" since it is now rigid

 

Hmm. Does "pipe wrap" really stay lily-white even after the motor's been up to operating temp?

Also, it's a 550 and I'm wondering where the clutch cable is routed?

And maybe it's only me, but it doesn't look like the gas cap has been opened since it got painted.

I'm seeing another "trailer queen."

 

I like the modern look of the case but that has sore ass and back written all over it

 

Am I the only one that noticed the leaf spring seat mount? I much prefer a stock bike over this, but this is most certainly an interesting theme, and looks to be carried out rather well.

 

last picture, is that a burr inside the pipe? if it is and it's been run, shouldn't it have some carbon on it?

I think you're right about the burr, Polock. Could be it hasn't been run very long... right? Even if I don't care for the style, it'd be disappointing to find out its just a fancy paperweight.

Captain, I'm right there with ya. I've seen a front suspension with leafsprings too... it'd be cool to do a bike with all leafsprings.

 

My first thought was "crispy legs". That is some strange exhaust routing...

 

that front brake line could be shorter, cap, ehh, tough call
