Anyone have a clue if this is possible to fix with just a weld? It's all the way around the muffle on the right side. New to me 81 maxim 650.

Thanks everyone. This is my first post.

are you saying one of these on the right side fell off?

im pretty sure on most models, unless changed by the PO, the silencers were not welded but simply clamped and sealed with the help of an exhaust gasket.

If it's a stress crack it should be weldable. Of course the chrome in the area will be ruined. If it rusted through the material will probably be too thin to weld.

Once I figure out how to get pictures from my phone to here I'll post a picture of it. I wish that the mufflers were just clamped on. It would be a lot easier to fix. It still runs fine, I do notice a slight difference in the 7-9k power band when hitting the throttle hard. Just cruising though no difference is felt.

Find someone who knows how to gas weld with a filler rod.

A talented welder can work magic on thin metal.
