Better seat options for long distances on an XJ750 Maxim

I am planning on finally taking all of my allotted vacation time this year which means I'll be spending a LOT of time in the saddle of my low-mileage 82 XJ this summer and fall.

What I need is ideas to make my tailbone happy. I'd like a softer, wider, and taller seat. I have been doing a lot of motorcycle camping and I want to go further for more days in comfort.

Also, the ergonomics of the XJ aren't quite right for me. I'd like to bring my hands down and my butt up to open my riding position and take some weight off my knees (anyone have highway bars for an XJ?). Someone suggested different bar mounts and going with a tube style bar instead of the stock XJ setup. Ideas?

I have a fabrication buddy who could help modify the seat mounts if there's something that would sort of fit with some modification. He's also good at recovering seats with better foam.

I know I could get a different bike but I have 2 kids in college so that's not in the budget for now.

My bike wouldn't run as well as it does with out your sage advice and great forum.
