Hey fellas, I went out riding the other day and noticed my tachometer movements were extremely sluggish. So I checked my tach cable to make sure it was in proper functioning condition and it was. So I pulled with instrument gauge cluster with some assistance from the excellent BigFitz writeup: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15303.html I believe my problem is resulting from a gummed up spindle and support bearing, the area somewhat pictured below. The writeup recommends feeling for the spot with the lube straw. Are there any recommendations as to how to properly ensure the lube is reaching the intended area? Do I work the needle back and forth while lubing or just point and spray?

Squirt a little in, work it back and forth (gently) squirt some more in, etc.

Depending on how gummed up it was to begin with you should be able to feel that it's a lot "freer."

Man this is awesome! It's so responsive now like having a new tach. Apparently it was pretty gummed up as it took quite a few passes to get it moving freely. Now it's time for a winter ride. Thanks for the assistance.
