Are the floats in the XJ650 carbs made of a solid material or are the hollow?

They are very light weight so have got to be hollow. I've not cut one up but basically an air ballast/float is my belief.

solid, sorta. they are full of air bubbles. that is why they are so light. this particular float was really rusty. so I boiled it in a crock pot of phosphoric acid. the problem was that I forgot it and when I remembered it I found two perfectly clean floats less the metal part. it had dissolved completely.

Thanks for the pic and information. I am rebuilding a spare set of carbs and one of the floats have an indentation on it. It is on the top so I wanted to be sure that it wouldn't fill up and hold the float valve open.

it was pretty far gone with rust to begin with and was extra parts. so it wasn't any real big deal.
