Does anyone know what is the normal operating oil temp for our bikes? I took a 50 mile cruise and my oil temp at the crankcase was 200-210. I'm sure that is a normal reading since it doesn't seem high but I'm not sure with air cooled motors.

Anything below 250ºF is fine (below 230 is even better). Above that temperature non-synthetic oils begin to lose their lubricity.

You want the oil to be hot enough to boil off moisture. 230deg is a good number.

The moisture dosen't have to boil. It just needs to be hot enough to evaporate.

It was a fairly cool day(44*f) but hey I have to capitalize when I can because wisconsins ridding season is short as it is. I would imagine that once it hits 80-90 my oil temp increase some but I'm not too worried about it now.

Out of curiosity, how are you measuring the temp? I was always interested in getting an oil temp gauge, but it seems like it would take up a whole lot of space on the bars, and there isn't many good options to locate the probe itself.

Maybe just a high temp warning light if it goes over 250 would be enough.
