Remember that price is MSRP, you'll be able to get it for a lot lower.

I think it's great that Yama is bringing out these smaller "starter" bikes in a good price bracket. It will get more people interested in getting on a bike!

Around here the suggested retail is the price you pay . They do not come down even a nickle here plus you have set up , delivery fee's and sales tax!

I would love to find a lightly used one in a year or 2. The simplicity of it is so great! To have a light single cyl. motor like that and have it be up to todays reliability, PLUS kickstart. COOL BEANS

As others have said, the price is outrageous for what you get. I love the idea of a big single, but theres no way I'd pay this for what Yammy is offering.

Back when the Suzuki TU250 was introduced (to the US market at least) I saw one at Daytona Bike Week and was told by the sales folks in the factory tent that they were considering a TU650 based on the DR engine. Hmm, haven't seen that one yet. Hopefully getting some big street thumpers might invigorate the market segment, or else this will be a one hit wonder like Honda's GB500.

wow! the frame doubles as an oil tank. I would like to see just how they did that.

Man that concept has been around for a long time. Triumphs and Nortons, and more recently Buells have all used oil-in-frame.
Basically you just seal up a small section of the frame tubing to make an oil tank, add a nipple and a filler neck and there you go. It requires a dry sump oiling system, so Japanese inline fours wouldn't use this technique.

The oil is in the frame backbone, running under the fuel tank. Oil filler right behind the steering stem.

Back in the day, I had two SR500s, a '78 (rear disc brake) and an '80 (rear drum.) At the time, the SR400 was sold elsewhere in the world.

I don't think they ever stopped making them; just decided that the time was right to bring them here again.

Sweet bikes, although you do have to be prepared for a bit of single-cylinder style vibration.
