    All of the above.

Dude couldn't even set the seat back on it the right way for the pics; and despite what he hints at in his ad, I doubt he's ever ridden it. He probably can't get it to stay running, and we all know why. He hasn't a clue.

Somebody could have themselves a really decent '83 ('83s had round headlights and traditional clocks) 750 Max for probably around $600 with a proper hammering of the obviously clueless seller.

My question is, at 73k on the clock, what else am I going to have to do to the bike to make sure it's right?

Suspension, brakes, driveline (tranny, namely), engine (how much wear, and how badly neglected?).

73k is getting kind of high on an XJ, isn't it?

I'm not sure, but it looks like the RH side caliper isn't hooked up to its brake line...ooops!

73k is high, but only because most people in the U.S. don't actually ride their motorcycles. The bike is good for well over 100k with regular maintenance, and unless it's flogged and abused will likely go well over 200k.

20 some odd years ago Classic Cycles featured a 1936 Ariel that had been a single-owner bike for over 300,000 miles. The owner was getting ready to sell it because he was getting too old to ride it.

Do the maintenance, and you can ride forever. Even having parts made for a rebuild is cost-effective if you put enough miles on the machine afterward (though the XJ won't be needing that for a long while).

Fitz will likely chime in with his list. My fingers are tired.

It's 73k KM, which is only about 45k miles. Should be plenty of life left!

hamster nailed it. at least that was the answer to my question. yeah the owner is seemingly clueless as to what this bike really needs.

He's also assuming any potential buyer is likewise clueless.
