A buddy of mine said he cleans his dis-assembled carbs in an ultrasonic cleaner in a solution of Simple Green. Is he nuts? Or is it a good idea?

It might be easier, of course I would have to find an ultrasonic cleaner.
    Thanks
    Tom

I heard it is a very good idea.
I was going to do mine but the large ultra-sonic cleaner that we had at work got sent to our Ft. Worth plant. . .

Just got my carbs off the bike and am awaiting a set of JIS screw drivers. Then going to use the Berryman gallon Carb Dip.

Yes, the Berryman B-12 Chem Dip did a fantastic job of getting all that gunk out of my carb bodies!

And I can reuse the stuff on my XS11 carbs, next!

    In the Church of Clean...

Yup, I sonic clean all of my carbs in a Hornady unit. Works like a charm.

Sometimes, I strip them down to the bare body, & tumble them in walnut media. That way when I do go to sonic clean them, any grease is dried out & caky. This means the sonic cleaner will be able to shake that crap off easy.

(And besides that, tumbling leaves a nice surface finish on everything  )

I dropped a pocket knife in a Volkswagen gas tank years ago and could't get it out for a couple of weeks. When I was finally able to fish it out it was as clean as a whistle. Since I had been driving the car daily, I guess I created my own crude sonic cleaner.

I've often wondered if I could do the same thing by placing a bucket with cleaning solution on top of a fan, air conditioner, or anything that would have a constant vibration and leave it for a day or so.

I'm just going to start putting all my carb parts into my friends VW gas tank.

"Oh, i think I forgot something in your car the other day, mind if I take a look?"

He'll be confused when I pop the hood...
