    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself! I've been browsing the forum for some time now after purchasing my 82 XJ 650 Maxim back in February. Now that the snowmobiles are put away and winter in west Michigan seems (fingers crossed) to be on its way out, I figured it was high time to start my bobber project!

The bike is pretty much down to frame and motor at this point. I plan to resurface and paint pretty much everything on the bike. Despite being in great shape mechanically, especially for a 32 yo bike, I plan to do a thorough shakedown. It seems there are 3 major areas of concern from what I've gathered from the site so far (please feel free to add anything to the list):

    1) rear drum brakes/shoes
    2) front caliper rebuild/ add braided brake lines
    3) valve shim spec

I will probably start a new thread in the modifications forum if people are interested.

Happy to be a part of this great site!

    And from another Michigander, welcome.

Us? Interested in a build thread? Nah, where'd ya get that idea????

    LOL

Looks like a nice starting point. One more thing to add to your list, since they are already off, clean carbs then bench sync and running sync.

Depending on your location I have a colortune plug when it comes time for that.
