I just finally got to the end of my XJ electical woes, but I still have one more glitch! This time its a simple one 8) thank GOD, and I am looking for suggestions. Time for a new battery, I wanted to see what the Xj guys had to say. The new 50 dollar advanced auto battery went good all summer and then died first 45 degree night. Charged it up a few more times but morning doo and the cold nights just kill it. You can hear the weakness in the starter on the cold 7 am mornings. Anyone have any brands they swear buy (100 BUCKS AND UNDER PLEASE)!

I bought a new battery from Walmart when I first got my bike about 4 years ago and it is still fine. I believe it was less than 40$. I have never put it on a trickle charger during the winter, I just go out and start up the bike every 2 months or so and go for a quick ride if the weather permits. There have been a few posts saying not get one from Walmart because they only last a season or two, but a have been happy with mine. Keeping the water level full could be an important factor in the lifespan of these batteries, luckily my bike has sensor that tells me when the water level is low.

I have a scorpion AGM, love it. Great cold cranking, which is necessary in Minnesota. I also use a Genius trickle charger when needed. I think the latter is a good move for anyone with an XJ.

I ride all year round and have to depend on a great battery. I got a Motobatt AGM battery and have had no problems at all. The secret is to keep it plugged in all the time. After a ride, plug it in. Use a Battery Tender JR. so that it get a real slow charge and it will turn itself off once it hits a full charge. If you get this setup you will not have problems....

Same here on all my bikes. Quite expensive but well worth the money.

Yep; I inadvertently got SEVEN years out of a store-branded DEKA.

Just a plain old lead-acid battery like stock; a PO told me it was new when in fact it was four years old. I investigated when it only lasted three seasons, then discovered that it was seven years old.

Thanx for the great ideas guys, really apreciated. I spent so much on my 10 bank charger that I never thought I would need a tender lol. I was thinking about it though and it definetly makes sense. Due to the moisture I thought I was getting a draw somwere, but regardless I am going to get a new Batt. and a 30 dollar jr. charger and just plug her in every night(practicly a gurantee!!) lol! Weird wouldnt start at 7am this morn 40 degrees and covered in dew, went home for lunch and she fired right up (50 and dry)

I've had the Wally batt for three seasons now, only added water. Never needed a jump or trickle
